Managing Default Dashboards

Default dashboards can be used by Dashboard Template Admins to guide their users' experience--showing them where to focus their attention and organizing their dashboard view for a more uniform experience across the enterprise. Note that in order for existing users to use your default dashboard, they must reset their dashboard to default. This may be done via the More Options menu in the Dashboard view by selecting Reset Dashboard to Default. This will overwrite any dashboards they have created or modified. Once applied, they may add their own panels and/or layouts. Any new users will be given the default dashboard automatically.

  1. To create a new default dashboard, enter the area of Moovila in which this dashboard will live (Tasks, Project Portfolio, Resource Capcity, or Projects). Enter Dashboard view and click More Options in the main navigation.

  2. The More Options menu opens. Choose the Manage Default Dashboards option.

  3. The Manage Default Dashboards dialog opens. Click the "+" at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Enter a name, toggle to deactivate if needed (this is helpful as the default dashboard is being built, but not yet ready to share), and a description.

  5. Choose the license type to which this default dashboard will apply. Only one default dashboard may exist per license type/security role combination. Note that only the User Seat license type grants the ability to associate a security role with this dashboard as well.

The dashboard applied as a default will correspond to the most detailed license type and/or security role applicable to a user. For example, a default dashboard for All User Types will display to ALL users within the enterprise. If one were added for Guest Users, those guest users would see the Guest User default and all other users would see the All User Types default dashboard. Note that regardless of the license type applied, end users will only see the the data to which they have permissions. So if my enterprise default dashboard has a panel containing financial information, only users will access to that data will see that panel.

Click Save to add the new default dashboard.
  6. The new default appears in the listing. Click the Edit icon to enter Default Dashboard Edit Mode.

  7. Default Dashboard Edit Mode opens. From here the new default dashboard may be created from scratch by adding panels and layouts and/or built using existing templates by selecting the From Template option when adding a new layout.

  8. Once your default dashboard has been built, click Save.

Note that this example default dashboard has been built for Guest users. It is important to remember that users will only view the data to which they have rights based upon their license type and security role.

  9. The Manage Default Dashboard dialog will open once more. From this dialog you can:
    1. Configure (Update the Name, Description, Active Status, License Type and/or Security Role).

    2. Edit (Enter Default Dashboard Edit Mode to make any updates or changes to your default dashboard. Note that users will need to refresh their dashboard to see any updates).

    3. Delete (This default dashboard will no longer apply this default to new users, but deleting will not remove it from users who have already applied it).
